The main objective of the RLAOS is to develop standards for ability to exchange the information. The project also focuses on adopting open standards and localization process by following W3C guideline to ensure interoperability between storage, display and access to service.

Localization in Malayalam with UNICODE Standards: The Unicode standard is the universal character encoding standard used for representation of text for computer processing. It is fully compatible with the International Standard ISO/IEC 10646-1;1993. and contains all the same characters and encoding points as ISO/IEC 10646. Unicode provides a consistent way of encoding multilingual plain text and brings order to chaotic state of affairs that has made it difficult to exchange text files internationally. In Unicode the code points for Traditional Malayalam script and Reformed Malayalam script is same. So, the changing of script from Traditional to Reformed and vice-versa can be achieve simply by selecting the font name.Alphabetical sorting of Malayalam is 99% accurate in Unicode text

Developing Standards and framework for localization: Different standards developed are ISCII (Indian Script Code for Information Interchange) for the use in all computer and communication media, which allows usage of 7 or 8 bit characters,Alphabetic Code for Information Interchange (Pronounced as “Ae-Kee)is a 8-bit code, Unicode Standard which is a 16-bit storage encoding standard and is being used internationally by the Industry for the development of Multilingual Software etc.

Developing common localized platform for e-Governance Application: The main aim is to facilitate Government to Citizen (G to C) e-governance. It will develop an e-platform to deliver services to the citizens efficiently and effectively.
