Friedrich Recknagel is Professor at the School of Biological Sciences of the University of Adelaide (Australia) with a research focus on quantitative ecology by means of deterministic modelling and machine learning. Over the past 20 years he has pioneered applications of artificial neural networks, evolutionary algorithms and model ensembles for the simulation and short-term forecasting of eutrophication processes and algal blooms in freshwaters. He received his PhD and Habilitation in the field of applied limnology from the Dresden University of Technology (Germany). Since 2006 he is Editor-in-chief of the journal Ecological Informatics, and is member of the editorial board of the journal Ecological Modelling. He published 5 books and 124 journal articles.
