Master of Science in Computer Science with specialization in Data Analytics course offered by the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala, aims at offering a high standard curriculum in allied disciplines of Computer Science. The programme focuses on a broad grasp of foundations in Computer Science, deep understanding of the area of specialization, an innovative ability to solve new problems, and a capacity to learn continually and interact with trans-disciplinary groups. The technology enhanced e-learning methodologies with web based course management system and on-line learning system enriches the programme, allow to broaden their horizons.

The duration of full time course is 2 years (4 semesters).  The course content for both this courses are same.   The course is carefully designed to attain technical aspects that enable students to grow into competent Data Analytics professionals.  There are 11 course courses, 4 elective courses, Five lab courses and two mini projects.  The final semester for this courses are dedicated for doing project/internship of 18 credits.  Students are required to undergo an industry or research oriented project in any leading IT or R& D institution.  Total credit requirement for both the programmes are 72 credits

Data analytics is the process of examining data sets in order to draw conclusions about the information they contain, increasingly with the aid of specialized systems and software. Data analytics technologies in association with machine learning technologies are widely used in commercial industries to enable organizations to make more-informed business decisions and by scientists and researchers to verify or disprove scientific models, theories and hypotheses.

Having an interdisciplinary skill set and knowing how to handle and analyze large amounts of data is now essential for many career paths. The use of data analytics is a growing trend spanning all industries. Though the uses of analytics vary based on industry, any business can benefit by incorporating data analytics. In fact, data analytics are critical to the success and growth of any company, no matter their size.

Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management Kerala, IIITMK, offering post graduation programme in Data Analytics with aspects of Computer Science. We are the only institute in Kerala, offering M.Sc Computer Science with specialization in Data Analytics, matching with industry trends. Intelligent analysis of large amounts of data is a crucial component in numerous business applications and a crucial component in supporting business decisions. The post graduation programme in data analytics is intended to offer the foundations of data analytics, data mining and knowledge discovery methods and their application to practical problems.

The programme focuses on a broad grasp of foundations in Computer Science, deep understanding of the area of specialization, an innovative ability to solve new problems, and a capacity to learn continually and interact with trans-disciplinary groups. The technology enhanced e-learning methodologies with web based course management system and on-line learning system enriches the programme, allow broadening their horizons. We offer Machine Learning, Foundations of Data Analytics, exploratory Data Analytics, Big Data, Natural Language Processing, Artificial Intelligence etc along with basic courses in Computer Science. Core part of the course is the hands on exposure to Hadoop, Sparks , R , Python etc.

As institute works with the changing in trends of IT industry, IIITM-K has a good track record of placing its students in top-notch IT industries and research organizations. All students from the passed out batch got almost 100% career  in prominent companies implements data analytics, these companies are working on diverse of areas like transportation, sports, automobiles, electronics, digital marketing etc.

Eligibility

Entry-level requirement is a minimum score of 60 percentage marks OR CPI/CGPA of 6.5  or above in 10 points in the  Bachelor’s degree in any branch  of Engineering / Technology / Science  with  Mathematics as  a Subject of study

A candidate with CGPA less than 6.5 will also be eligible if the equivalent percentage for graduation is above 60% as per the respective university norms for conversion from CGPA to percentage. In such a case, the candidate will have to produce the official document or percentage equivalence certificate from the respective university showing CGPA to percentage conversion norms, at the time of admission. Students who have scored less than 60% in their graduation degree are not eligible for admission to the courses of IIITM-K.

Candidates belonging to SC/ST communities are eligible for applying if they have minimum pass marks in the qualifying examination. SEBC candidates of Kerala State who are certified as belonging to non-creamy layer are eligible for 5% relaxation in the minimum required marks for qualifying examination, provided that the candidates have passed the examination.

Number of Seats

The number of seats for this program is 30.

The demand for data scientists is huge, the number is said to be much higher than the available candidates. So, choosing data science as a career option has a lot of scope and will remain so in the near future
