Introduction

Palliative care is any form of medical care or treatment that concentrates on reducing the severity of the symptoms of a disease, or slow the disease's progress, rather than provide a cure. Cancer and HIV are some of the areas where palliative care has shown to improve the quality of people with prolonged debilitating illness.Several millions of Indians need this but it is available to less than 0.4% of the needy.
Pallium India is an organization working towards improvement in access to palliative care at the national level. Trivandrum Institute of Palliative Sciences is currently its headquarters.
The services includes providing training to health care providers, developing community based palliative care providers and volunteers in addition to providing palliative care in the community.
