IIITM-K Participates eIndia 2010 Conference
IIITM-K participated in eINDIA 2010 conference, India`s largest ICT event during 4-6 August 2010 at Hyderabad. eINDIA has been an excellent platform for bringing together stakeholders where the information on the ICT projects implementation of the country was presented and also to exchange ideas and to get to know the possibilities of new innovations that have come into the field of Information technology. The conference mainly focused on e-Governance, e-Education, e-Health, e-Agriculture and related fields.
IIITM-K director Dr. Elizabeth Sherly and sri. R. Ajithkumar, Information Systems Analyst were the invited speakers of the event in digital learning and e-Agriculture track respectively. Dr. Sherly had delivered a talk on Cloud Enabled elearning platform to improve the systems and processes by pooling and provisioning resources on demand. Mr. Ajithkumar delivered a talk on challenges and Opportunities in Building an effective Rural Agricultural Information Delivery System: The KISSAN Kerala experience.
This three-day international conference and exhibition is a unique platform for knowledge sharing in different domains of ICT for development and facilitates multi-stakeholder partnerships and networking among governments, industry, academia and civil society organisations of different countries, including Srilanka, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The objective is to bring together ICT experts, practitioners, business leaders and stakeholders of the region onto one platform, through keynote addresses, paper presentations, thematic workshops and exhibitions. eIndia Exhibition is a unique platform that exhibits the best in cutting edge developments across India. There were 400 speakers in 6 tracks, 65 thematic sessions, 2000 delegates, and 120 exhibitors and sponsors. Several Ministers from Union and State, leaders of national level, technocrats, senior Government officials, industry people were attended this three days event.
Short Training on GIS and its applications in Hydrography
A two-weeks training on GIS and its applications on Hydrographic data modeling was conducted at IIITMK from 2nd to 12th of August, 2010. 10 officers of Hydrographic Survey Wing of Port Department of Kerala underwent the training. Hydrographic Survey Wing is a specialist Survey & Investigation Organization that carries out Hydrographic Investigations for the development of Minor and Intermediate Ports of the Maritime State of Kerala. This Wing conducts Pre-Dredging/Post-Dredging and Pre-Monsoon/Post-Monsoon surveys for the developmental activities in the maritime sector.
The training involved advanced spatial modeling and analysis of high accuracy - high precision sounding data of sea-depth for almost all major ports of Kerala. The training emphasized on 3D Computations and visualization of sounding data, Volume estimation, Cut-Fill analysis and generation of VRML models.
Dr. CSP Iyer delivers keynote address at Bio Spectrum conference
At the International Conference Bio Spectrum organized at MACFAST, Thiruvilla, Dr. C.S.P Iyer, Emeritus Professor, IIITM-K gave away prizes to the Top Rank holders in BioSciences of the M.G. University who have passed out from MACFAST 2009-10. Dr. Iyer also gave a keynote address on Standards and Reference materials. At the same conference Ms. C.G.Chandrabindu, Project Assistant, IIITM-K presented a paper entitled Analytical Methods for Trace Metals in Algae.
Kerala Women's Science Congress
Dr. C.S.P Iyer, Emeritus Professor, IIITM-K addressed the Kerala Women's Science Congress on 11 Aug. 2010 on the recent advances in Chemical Sciences. Dr. Iyer was also the chairperson of the panel of judges for evaluating the best presentation in Physical-Chemical sciences.
CISCO visit
Ms. Joan and Mr. Prakashkumar, IAS of CISCO visited IIITM-K on 30 July to have discussions on the IIITM-K cloud computing initiatives . The IIITM-K team was led by the Dr. Sherly, Director and Meraj Uddin of IIITM-K . A demo of the cloud setup was arranged by the cloud computing team members comprising Sarath, Vijesh and Diya. The discussions covered various aspects of deploying cloud computing infrastructure including Scalability,Security,Testing and looked at collaboration and research opportunities.

- 29 July, 2010: "Doing Things Differently: The Innovator's Dilemma" by Sri. Madhava C. Kurup, former General Manager, Product Engineering, SunTec Business Solutions Pvt. Ltd.
- Dr. C.S.P Iyer, Emeritus Professor, IIITM-K gave lectures on Methods and Tools for Science and Experimentation in Science for College teachers as part of their training programme at the Academic Staff College, University of Kerala on 6 Aug. 2010.
IIITM-K celebrates Onam
The faculty, staff and students of IIITM-K celebrated Onam on 20 Aug. 2010. Dr. Elizabeth Sherly, Director, IIITM-K, Dr.CSP Iyer, Emeritus Professor, IIITM-K and Sri. Rajendrakumar M.K, Registrar inaugurated the programme by lighting the traditional lamp and delivering the Onam message. On this occasion a floral carpet design "Pookalam" was made by the staff. Traditional Onam Sadya was also served. IIITM-K community also participated in the events which were organised and prizes were presented to the winners of the events by Dr. Sherly.
IIITM-K participates in Goal-10
IIITM-K students and staff, as part of sporting activities, entered a team for the Goal-10 Technopark National Football tournament, held at the LNCPE grounds, Trivandrum from Augut 8 to September 11. The team put up a good performance in the league matches along with more than 20 companies from Technopark.
