Advanced post graduate programmes at IIITM-K with Scholarships
The Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K), has announced admissions to the next batches of Master of Science in Information Technology, M.Phil in Eco-Informatics and Post Graduate Diploma in e-Governance.
The institute conducts a two year Masters in Information Technology programme and a one year M.Phil in Ecological Informatics with the degrees currently being awarded by Cochin University of Science and Technology. These courses come under the Special Post Graduate Expansion Drive in IT (SPEED-IT) programme of the Government of Kerala. Under this programme the students meeting the prescribed criteria are eligible for attractive scholarships, amounting to Rs 8,000/- p.m. to cover tuition fee, University fee, and learning expenses. First preference is given to GATE qualified students who are not in receipt of GATE scholarship. Scholarship will be available to ALL students having more than 65% (GPA 7.0) in the qualifying examination. IIITM-K has been chosen as an Institution of excellence by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India for pursuing Masters Degree program of two-year duration at IIITM-K. Scholarships are available to a maximum of 10 students belonging to Scheduled Castes and 5 students belonging to Scheduled Tribes. Scholarship covers tuition fee of Rs 1.5 lacs, Lodging & boarding charges of Rs.2220 per month; Book grant of RS.3000 per annum and a Laptop computer.
The course is designed in a unique way to enable students to get quality education with more instructional tasks. Technology Enhanced e-Learninig methodology, digital library services, high end lab and computing environment with latest technologies like grid, cluster and cloud, multimedia services with recorded and streamed video lectures, and high bandwidth 24x7 Internet services are all made the courses enviable. Students of the Institute enjoy one of the best web-enabled learning environment in the country. A few of the selected students in the previous batches have completed internships in UK under the prestigious Eureca Erasmus Mundus programme. The institute has an excellent placement record, and our alumnus are working in GE, Oracle, Amdocs, Infosys, TCS, IBM, US technology etc.
IIITM-K has recently launched a one-year full-time Post Graduate Diploma in eGovernance (PGDeG) in association with Institute of Management in Government (IMG), to produce trained professionals to implement and manage e-Governance projects in a disciplined manner. Total number of seat is 45, of which 15 are reserved for Kerala Government Officials since the programme aims to prepare government officials to lead and to effectively implement e-governance projects. The remaining seats are open and the eligibility is first class Bachelors degree in any discipline with computer proficiency. Diploma/ certification in computer application / IT will be an added advantage. Preferences will be given to B Tech / MCA / MBA graduates. The programme will mainly cover topics of e-Governance, Management and IT. Upon successful completion of the programme, the participants may find career opportunities in e-Governance projects, IT industry, National and State ICT organisations.
The construction of the new campus of IIITM-K in Technopark campus in Trivandrum is progressing at a rapid pace. The first phase, consisting approximately 3500 M2 built up area is expected to be ready by end of 2010. By the end of this year, the classes will be shifted to the new campus where students can enjoy state-of-the-art computer labs, classrooms, library and conference halls. The institute is gearing up to offer more innovative programmes in Computer Science, Informatics, and other industry oriented programs. National Level workshop on Indian Language Corpora Initiative Project at IIITM-K
The third workshop on Indian Language Corpora Initiative (ILCI), a DIT sponsored project was held at IIITM-K on 9 April 2010. IIITM-K is one of the consortia members of 10 consortia project for Language Computing. The Kickoff meeting was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mr. Mervin Alexander, CEO of Technopark. Dr. Girish Nath Jha, Professor at JNU and Consortia Leader briefed about the project. A website on Virtual Learning Centre for Language Computing (VRC-LC) developed by IIITM-K was also launched during the function by the Chief Guest. VRC-LC web portal acts as the repository of information about research work, projects related to language computing, software tools, standards etc to enable localization in a computer. The work mainly focuses on Malayalam Language, that can address the linguistic barrier of our people using computer and also to enable common man to benefit from the e-Governance projects.
Dr. S Rajendaran, Head and Professor, Tamil University spoke on various Language projects in India under Department of Information Technology. Dr. N Rajendran, Hon. Professor, University of Kerala offered facilitations. During the meeting, Dr. Girish Nath Jha, Consortia Leader was honored for the new distinguished professor position at University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, USA and Dr. Malhar Kulkarni, Professor, IIT Mumbai who has been bestowed with the President's Baadaraayana Vyaasa Award for 2009 for his contribution to Sanskrit. The consortia members from Gujarat University, Goa University, Dravidian University, JNU, Delhi, ISI Kolkata, IIT Mumbai, Tamil University participated in the workshop.
MPhil EI students visit IFP Pondicherry
Students of M.Phil. Ecological Informatics with faculty of Department of Ecology, The French Institute, Pondicherry, India.Sessions were handled by Dr. Raphael Pelissier,Dr. Frederic Borne,Dr. B.R. Ramesh and Mr. G. Muthusankar. The students were presented a certificate of completion at end of the training programme.
