Short Course on Systems and Network Administration in Linux
IIITM-K conducted a two weeks' short course on Systems and Network Administration in Linux between 08-19 March 2010 under Information Security Education and Awareness [ISEA] project of DIT, Govt. of India. ISEA project is a collaborative efforts of about 40 institutions with the IITs, IISc, TIFR as resource centres and IIITM-K as one of the participating institution. The objective of the project is to enhance research and academic initiatives in Information security. The main agenda of the project includes various training programs for system administrators and professionals, bring information security awareness among IT professionals, conduct long term and short term courses on Networks and Information security and related topics. The short term course conducted by IIITM-K is the third in the series conducted under ISEA and more programmes are on the anvil.
Network experts from Industry and academia handled the sessions. Mr. Amarnath Raja, CEO, InApp Tech. P. Ltd, Technopark has been the mentor and instructor of the course. Ms. Sajayasree K.K and Mr. Meraj Uddin, faculty at IIITM-K coordinated the programme and handled different sessions. Other speakers included Mr Jyotis SV, Tech Lead, Yahoo, Mysore, Mr Shahid Iqubal, Sr Network Consultant, IBS and Mr Abhijith G, Engineer, Keltron, Trivandrum. Lab sessions were supported by Mr Arun G, Ms Pravda MR, Mr Vijesh and Mr Santhosh Devasia from IIITM-K.
There were 22 participants comprising young engineers who look forward to a career in systems and network administration and working IT professionals. The course was well received and the participants gave encouraging feedback of the course.
Visit by EUINEC Programme Co-ordinators
Two representatives from EUINEC (European Union & India Enhanced Co-operation Framework for Improved Bilateral Dialogue in the field of Science & Technology) a BILAT project funded by the European Commission via the Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Develpment (FP7), Capacities Specif Programme, International Co-operation (INCO visited IIITM-K on 17 March 2010. EUINEC aims to improve the S&T cooperation between the EU and India by increasing awareness among Indian and European stakeholders about co-operation opportunities and empowering stakeholders to successfully initiate co-operation between Indian and European organisatiosn and to take an active part in the Seventh Framework programme. EUINEC also aims to share best practices through joint exchange of information and experiences.
Ms. Martina Desole, National Contact point and Ms. Bodil Palmberg, Project Manager, briefed the highlights of the project and invited IIITM-K to participate in the project. The project would benefit partnering Universities and Institutes, Researchers and scientists, organisations, NGOs and networks. The visiting team offered assistance to IIITM-K to find project partner and stay updated on EU-India S&T coperation. The group was impressed by IIITM-K's course on eco-informatics and the initiatives of e-Governance in agriculture.
InfoExpo: Exhibition of Educational CDs
Digital Library & Information Service Division @ IIITM-K organised an InfoExpo: Exhibition of Educational CDs. The Objective of this Exhibition was to spread awareness on different Educational CDs available in IIITM-K Library.
Invited Talks and Publications
- Dr Elizabeth Sherly delivered a lecture on Technology Enhanced Learning and Teaching Model at College of Engineering, Trivandrum on March 17, 2010. There were more than 80 teachers from various engineering colleges of Kerala. After the lecture participants were demonstrated features of Moodle, an open source Learning Management System and also given hands on training by Mr. Meraj Uddin with the support of Ms Pravda MR and Ms Rekhila SJ of IIITM-K.

Visitors
- 43 MCA students from Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kalamassery along with faculty visited IIITM-K on 12.3.2010 as part of students study tour and industrial visit. Dr. Elizabeth Sherly, Director,IIITM-K, Sri. Ajith Kumar R., Sr. Design Engineer, IIITM-K and Sri. Meraj U.,Design Engineer, IIITM-K briefed the students about the institute Academic programmes and Project activities.
