Friday 21 December 2007 (Day 1): Learning and Teaching with the Web
The World Wide Web has transformed itself from a medium primarily used for delivering documents to one that delivers and runs rich, interactive applications to create community spaces. This transformation has brought along with it new opportunities for all of us engaged in learning and teaching: collaborative models like wiki's, blogs, multimedia, and online communities and such are changing the way we learn. What new opportunities is new medium of web being used for teaching in different fields, specially engineering, sciences and computer sciences?

Explicitly or implicitly, programming languages mirror domains. The best languages weave the concerns of a domain through a compatible computational model to offer programmers the best of both worlds. This statement naturally raises the question: What constraints does the Web impose, and what programming language technologies are most appropriate for it?
This 1 day workshop will cover a host of different topics ranging from programming styles, techniques to simplify synchronous software development, an investigation of asynchronous software methods, and the access-control security demands imposed by having data globally available to a variety of users.
