Course Description

Master of Science in Information Technology will be a flagship programme offered by the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala, aims at high standards in basic and applied sciences, technology, management and information system. The programme focuses on a broad grasp of foundations in Computer Science and IT, deep understanding of the area of specialization, an innovative ability to solve new problems, and a capacity to learn continually and interact with trans-disciplinary groups. The technology enhanced e-learnining methodologies with web based course management system and on-line learning system enriches the programme, allows to broaden their horizons.

Course Objective

  • To impart theoretical knowledge that underpins the various areas of Computer Science and IT.
  • To impart sound knowledge in Science, Technology and Management related to Information Systems and their applications in relevant fields with the latest technologies.
  • Build a pool of technically qualified manpower to build a knowledge Society.
  • To cater the needs of industry and scientific organizations in global era in IT and aligned areas.
  • Develops professionals and leaders of high caliber imbued with values of entrepreneurship, ethics and social responsibility.
  • To emerge as leader in the vital areas that are essential to the effective integration of IT enabled services.

Course Duration and credits

The duration of the programme is 2 years and the courses are carefully designed to attain both technical and managerial aspects that enable them to grow into competent, seasoned professionals. There are 13 core courses spread across 3 semesters accumulating 48 credits. The 4th semester is for internship of credit 18. Students are required to undergo an industry or research oriented project in any leading IT or R and D organizations. Students are also required to take up two electives of 6 credits and the total requirement of credit is 72.

Scholarships

Candidates seeking Admission to the Master of Science in Information Technology programme are eligible for the scholarship under the Special Postgraduate Education Expansion Drive in IT (SPEED - IT) program of the Department of Information Technology, Govt. of Kerala amounting to Rs 8,000/- p.m. First preference will be given to GATE qualified students but not in receipt of GATE scholarship. Minimum marks for the scholarship shall be 65% in (GPA 7.0) the qualifying examination. Usual relaxation for reserved candidates would be allowed. More details about SPEED IT program

For SC/ST candidates : IIITM-K has been chosen as an Institution of excellence by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Govt. of India for pursuing Masters Degree program of two-year duration at IIITM-K. Scholarships are available to a maximum of 10 students belonging to Scheduled Castes and 5 students belonging to Scheduled Tribes. Scholarship covers tuition fee of Rs 1.5 lacs, Lodging & boarding charges of Rs.2220 per month; Books grant of RS.3000 per annum and a Laptop computer during the entire course of study.
