Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management - Kerala (IIITM-K) is a premier institution of excellence in advanced education in IT and allied areas established by Government of Kerala in the year 2000. IIITM-K conducts Post Graduate programmes, research and provide the base for several advanced developments in applying IT for the state's development, science and technology and in socially important areas like Agriculture, Education and Health in general. The institute provides a vibrant research environment supported by highly qualified faculty members, excellent infrastructure and facilities. IIITM-K invites applications for admission to the Ph.D. Programme starting in April 2010 in IT related topics in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language processing, Software Engineering, Advanced Computing areas like High Performance Computing, Grid and Cloud Computing, Distributed Computing etc. Eligibility
Only candidates who have qualified in the entrance test conducted by the university or National Eligibility Test conducted by the UGC / CSIR / ICAR / ICMR or GATE or State Level Eligibility Test conducted by Kerala Government or Fellowship awarded by KSCSTE or who possess M Phil degree by research and thesis, in addition to a Masters Degree or its equivalent with not less than 55% marks are considered eligible to apply for registration for PhD research. for SC/ST Candidates: SPEED-IT Research Fellowship: The selected full-time candidates shall be eligible to get "SPEED-IT Research Fellowship" instituted by the Department of Information Technology, Government of Kerala. Each selected student will be eligible for a monthly fellowship of Rs 14,000/- for the first year, Rs 15,000/- for the second year and Rs 17,000/- for the third year. An annual contingent grant of Rs 20,000/- will also be paid. Students receiving assistantships from the Institute or fellowships from any other funding agencies are required to perform academic duties as per prevailing norms. The continuation of the assistantship/fellowship is subject to satisfactory performance of the assigned duties and satisfactory progress of the student in the Ph.D. Programme. If the Research fellow discontinues after six months of registration and before completion of the work, he / she will be liable to pay back the fellowship to Government. In, addition, annual progress reports with technical / scientific details of the work accomplished will be submitted at the end of each year. On completion of the tenure of fellowship the research fellow must sent detailed consolidated report of research work done during the entire period of fellowship to the Member Secretary, SPEED - IT. The researcher selected under the scheme will be entrusted with 8 hours of teaching work in the institution. The fellowship will be purely on contract basis and will not be eligible for any service benefits. The scholars will be required to complete the research programme leading to Ph.D within a period of three years. Extension for a maximum period of one year will be considered for exceptionally good candidates on case by case the high level committee of SPEED -IT. No research fellow shall discontinue his / her fellowship without prior approval of Member Secretary, SPEED-IT. In case he/she wishes to discontinue the fellowship prior to completion of the tenure, he/she must submit the resignation to the Member Secretary through the Guide / IIITM-K, indicating specific reasons for not continuing the fellowship. The fellowship shall cease from the date stipulated in the letter approving the resignation. If the research fellow discontinues the programme after six months of his joining the scheme and before completing the research work, he/she has to repay the fellowship amount. The fellows will have to execute a bond to this effect. The research fellows who thus resigned must send a detailed consolidated report of the research work done during the period of fellowship through the research Guide/IIITM-K to Member Secretary, SPEED - IT within one month of accepting the resignation. The research fellow shall inform Member Secretary through the Guide / IIITM-K about the submission of thesis for Ph.D and submission/publication of any research paper arising out of the research work done during the tenure of the fellowship. A copy of the thesis must be sent to the Member Secretary within one month of the award of the Ph.D degree. The copy of the thesis and publications shall be deposited in the institute repository and the websites. Due acknowledgement of IT Department will be given in all the publications emanating from the research work. Research scholars availing any other source of scholarship, stipend from other state/central funding agencies will not be simultaneously eligible for fellowship. The research scholar should furnish an undertaking to the effect that he/she. Is not availing stipend from any other source simultaneously. Age
Limit Selection : Researchers will be selected on the basis of research aptitude test and personal interview conducted by IIITM-K of candidates who meet the standards prescribed by a University in Kerala. Those who have not qualified any of the examinations prescribed by University to register for Ph.D, should qualify the examination within one year, and then proceed for registration. Candidates must register for Ph.D proramme with a University in Kerala latest by the next admission time in the respective Universities in any case not later than one year after the award. On approval by the University, the candidate should report to IIITM-K to carry out the research work in the area in which they are selected for fellowship. The University rules pertaining to research registration is all applicable to candidates for registration. Admission

Procedure: Filled in application forms complete with copies of mark sheets/certificates and other testimonials and a Demand Draft for Rs. 200/- for General/ OBC candidates and Rs.100/- for SC/ST/PD candidates drawn in any nationalized bank and payable at SBI, Technopark, should be sent to the Director, Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management Kerala, Nila (Ground Floor), Technopark Campus, PO Kariavattom, Thiruvananthapuram - 695 581 to reach on or before 15 March 2010. `Application for Ph.D. admission' should be written on the top of the envelope for sending the completed form.
