Master of Philosophy in Ecological Informatics (M. Phil-EI)
[PGDIT] [PGDeG] [Master of Science - IT] [M.Phil-EI]

Ecological Informatics (E.I) is a trans-disciplinary subject, which integrates ecology, informatics, computational and social sciences in order to improve our understanding of ecological processes and expand socio-ecological theory to integrate the earth's natural systems, human values, human health and well being. This program emphasizes using Information technology to address ecological issues. It prepares students for a meaningful research career in ecological/ environmental science.

The multi-dimensional approach of IT enabling ecological study/ research as envisioned at the school of ecological informatics, IIITM-K is perhaps globally peerless.

M. Phil-EI is a one-year full time program and adopts a credit system. Students earn their degree by completing 30 credit points, split among course work, seminar and a thesis. The program is so designed that students spent their first six months at IIITM-K, when they earn a maximum of 20 credits (19 from 3 courses and 1 seminar), before proceeding to one of the participating institutions (Centre for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore, Indian Institute of Remote sensing, Dehradun, The French Institute, Pondicherry) to carry out either a research project or complete a pertinent review and write a thesis, which can earn them a maximum of 10 credit points. .
