ERNET services

IIITM-K is hosting a Point of Presence(PoP) of ERNET India(Education & Research Network), an autonomous society under the Department of Information Technology, Govt. of India. The services of ERNET is available to all educational and research institutions.

ABOUT ERNET

ERNET(Education & Research Network)has made a significant contribution to begin the emergence of networking in the country. It practically brought the Internet to India and has built up national capabilities in the area of networking,especially in protocol software engineering.It has succeeded in building a large network that provides various facilities to the intellectual segment of Indian society,the research and education community.It has over the years become a trend setter in the field of networking.

Activities of ERNET are organised around 5 technology focus areas:

• Nationwide Academic and Research Network;
• Research and Development in the area of Data Communication and its Applications;
• Human Resource Development in the area of High-end Networking;
• Campus-wide High speed Local Area Network;
• Hosting of Educational Content; and Domain Registration for 'ac.in',res.in' & 'edu.in'

Currently the following services are being provided by the PoP at IIITM-K:

1. Information and Library Network(INFLIBNET-http://www.inflibnet.ac.in) of UGC to Cochin
University of Science and Technology, Mahatma Gandhi University,Kottayam, University of Calicut
and University of Kerala, Trivandrum
2. 512 kbps point to point link to Kerala Agriculture University,
Vellayani, Trivandrum
3. Hosting of web resources of NPTEL(National Programme on Technology
Enhanced Learning)- http://nptel.tvm.ernet.in
