The Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management - Kerala (IIITM-K) is set up by the Government of Kerala under its Information Technology Department in the year 2000. Which are the courses currently offered by IIITM-K?
M.Phil in Ecological Informatics
EligibilityM.Sc. in Natural Sciences (Botany, Zoology, Environmental Science, Plant Sciences, etc. or Physical Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) with a score of 60 % marks or above or CGPA of 6.5 or above in 10 points scale in the qualifying examination. SC/ST candidates are eligible for admission, if they have minimum pass marks in the qualifying examination.However,certain relaxation is provided for SC/ST candidates. Students those who are in final semester/year can also apply.
Duration - One year
Qualifying examination/degree for the admission for the M Phil- CS degree course is M. Sc/M C A/
M.Tech in Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Electronics/ Computational Sciences/Geo-
informatics or equivalent having minimum of three papers in CS/IT in the qualifying examination
with at least 60% aggregate marks, or CGPA of above 6.5 in 10 points, or equivalent on the above

Post Graduate Diploma in e-Governance
Eligibility :Entry-level requirement for the programme is a Bachelors degree in any discipline with working knowledge of computer systems. Diploma / Certification in computer application will be an added advantage. Preference will be given to B.Tech / MBA / MCA degree holders.
The total intake of the programme is 45 of which 20 are from open quota, 15 are reserved for Kerala Government Officials and 10 for sponsored candidates. Under sponsored category, Central & other State Govt., PSUs and Private Organizations could sponsor their employees through proper channel. SC, ST applicants will be eligible for reservation as per Government rules

What is the curriculum of the Masters and postgraduate diploma programmes ?
M.Sc in Information Technology
Is MSc equivalent to M.Tech. since the minimum elibility of intake is B.Tech?
MSc courses at IIITMK is equivalent to the university level MSc degrees. At IIITMK the MSc programs are research intensive. High quality Education at par with that of IITs and of a stature comparable to international standards is maintained. The academic rigor of the MSc programme at IIITMK can be expected to be more than that of a M.Tech programme. Past and Recent trends of the placement status of our students reveal that majority of the IT companies hold no distinction between M.Tech and M.Sc Degee Holders. Certain Government Institutions and Govt. Engineering Colleges do distinguish between M.Tech and M.Sc Degree. Students who would like to take up a teaching career after the MSc programme would require to clear NET or pursue a research course leading to a PhD.
Where can I get the application form?
Candidates should submit the application form on-line only. Online Registrations begin on 02nd April 2013. Detailed instructions for online application is given at Institute website http://www.iiitmk.ac.in/admission . A Printout of completed application form with a photograph pasted is required to be sent to The Director, Indian Institute of Information Technology & Management- Kerala, Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram-695581 along with a Demand Draft of Rs 250/- (Rs 100 for SC/ST students) Drawn in favour of Director IIITM-K, Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram payable at Thiruvananthapuram. The last date for receiving application forms is May 31st 2013.
Is there an application fee?
Yes. Application Fee: Rs. 250/- for General Category Candidates and Rs. 100/- for SC/ST Category. What is the syllabus and pattern for the Admission Test?
Admissions to both M.Sc/M.Phil and Post Graduate Diploma Programme will be based on a Common All India Online Admission Test to be conducted on June 02nd 2013.The admission test shall purely be objective in nature. The questions are designed to screen candidates’ General knowledge , Awareness in Science, English and Computers and Ability in Reasoning and Mathematics.
I have a valid GATE score, do I need to appear for the Admission Test?
Institute will decide the cut off for GATE score based on the application and those students will be intimated and exempted from writing the entrance test. However, they have to appear for the interview.
I am NET qualified? do I need to appear for the Admission Test for M.Phil (EI)?
The candidates who have qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC/CSIR are exempted from the written test
I am a student of Polymer Technology /Metallurgy / Dairy Technology / Agricultural Engineering/ Mining Engineering. Am I eligible to apply for admission to M.Sc in Information Technology? Will it be difficult for me to understand the IT related subjects?
We admit motivated students from ALL branches of engineering. The curriculum has been designed in such a way that the students get an opportunity to learn the different subjects from fundamentals to advanced levels. The excellent learning environment at the Institute provides the students, who find some courses difficult, an opportunity to learn the same in depth after class hours through the online web based learning materials and video lectures available in the Institute servers. A serious student should not have any problem in understanding the subjects, as long as he/she are willing to put in extra efforts.
I want to apply for your course. But I have less than 60%. If, I apply, will you reject my application?
To get admission in Master of Science in IT, one needs to have a consistently good academic record, i.e. with minimum score of 60 percentage marks or CGPA of above 6.5 in 10 points scale, in the final qualifying examination. For SC/ST candidates, a pass mark is enough for applying for the course
Is this course recognized and who will award the Degree?
The courses are recognized and degree will be awarded by Cochin University of Science & Technology (CUSAT)
What is the Fee structure of the Courses?
The course fee for Masters programme is Rs.2,00,000/-. The fee is payable in four equal installments of Rs. 50,000/-.
The course fee for the M.Phil programme is Rs.1,00,000/-. The fee is payable in two equal installments of Rs. 50,000/-.
The course fee for PGDeG programme is Rs. 75,000/-]. For open candidates this has to be paid in two installments of Rs. 50,000 at the time of admission and Rs. 25,000 in the second semester. There is also a refundable caution deposit of Rs 5000/-.
What is the expenses related to Examination?
Cochin University normally conducts Semester examinations every academic year in the months of November and April. Details of Semester fees examinations to be remitted is as follows:

NRI/Foreign National students : Few seats are available for Non-Resident Indian and Foreign National students. They are exempted from admission test. They are admitted on a rigorous evaluation of their academic performance and other achievements.
The NRI/Foreign Nationals are advised to submit their applications online. On submission, a copy of the application should be printed and sent by speed post with an application processing fee of Rs.5000/- or US $ 100. The annual tuition fee for for an NRIs/Foreign national student is US $ 3000 or equivalent Indian Rupees.
Does IIITM-K have its own campus?
Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management - Kerala functions from its own 3500 Sq. Mtr building in Technopark Campus, Trivandrum. As an institute, it has excellent IT supported academic and research infrastructure and labs. Further the pooled Technopark facilities like the convention centre, uninterrupted electricity and food courts are all available to our institute staff and students. As of now, we have all the amenities required to support the current academic programmes of the institute. Recently goverment has allocated 10 acres more to IIITMK and we expect to build one of India's best and most advanced hi-tech IT infrastructure in the new campus.
On IIITM-K's Institutional relations and its pioneering initiatives
The institute is well known as one of India's leaders in the development of applications of IT in Education, Agriculture, Computational Chemistry.We are adding areas like Scientific Computing and IT enabled Geoinformatics and Spatial Logistics management. The institute recently obtained the approval to host INRIA's 'Scilab' site and coordinate India's growth in Scientific Computing. It is working closely with the Kerala University to launch the postgraduate education and research programs in Computational Science. With the IITs and IISc, the institute has been a major contributor to the MHRD's National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) for the development and dissemination of e-course content for improving the quality of education in the engineering colleges under the AICTE. The instititute's Education Grid and KISSAN projects have won wide acclaims. Its Trivandrum City Police Portal for Community Interaction won the Manthan Award earlier.
Will there be any scholarships or financial support is available to the students?
Department of IT, Government of Kerala offers merit scholarships to students under the SPEED IT programme as per rules. The scholarship amounts to Rs 8000/- p.m. to cover a major part of the tuition fees . However, students need to bear living expenses by themselves .
IIITM-K has been chosen as an Institution of excellence by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and Ministry of Tribal Affairs Govt. of India. Scholarships are available to a maximum of 10 students belonging to Scheduled Castes and 5 students to Scheduled Tribes.

Do you provide hostel facility? Is the hostel in "residential flats"? Where is it situated? Are the rooms shared among students? What kind of food is served in hostel?
We provide hostel facility. They are large private hostel buildings in the vicinity of Technopark campus and reasonably well equipped. There are limited Single/double and ample Dormitory options for lodging available. Students are also free to make own arrangements. Food is generally of the local type. The Institute arranges for transport at notified hours along major routes.Students who intend to stay with spouses /family will be given assistance to find suitable accommodations.
How good are the computing infrastructure and other services in your institute?
IIITM-K has established its own full-fledged advanced IT Infrastructure including e-learning environment, digital library services, terminally mobile information access environment, grid-based information and computing environment for research, groupware and collaboration tools that support knowledge management, e-publishing, multimedia lectures recording and streamed multimedia services, Internet services, etc. IIITM-K has built on its own and regularly using advanced e-learning environment supported by digital library, content management systems and portals accessible on the web round-the-clock... The Institute enjoys First Class Web-enabled learning environments. This environment is supported around advanced Web-Technology education. A Server that has been developed in IIITM-K under the Entrepreneurship Development and Business Incubation programme of the Institute has capacity for rendering all infrastrucutral support to facilitate a Web Based learning Environment. The learning environment and the curricula have been enriched by constant flow of eminent faculty and experts from the IIT`s, IIM and leading IT industries. All CD ROMs are made available through the CD Server. IIITM-K have institutional membership of Global Institute of Flexible Systems Management, New Delhi, British Library, and Technopark Library. The digital library of IIITM-K is claimed to be first functional Digital Library of it's kind in the Country. Digital Library houses a galaxy of video lectures, e-books, e-journals, content pages of the books, reports and other electronic information resources. All classroom lectures, seminars, invited lectures of the Institute are digitized and made available through the online digital library using advanced SMIL multimedia technologies.
